My complaint with most single artist blues albums is that too much of the content sounds the same, but there is no problem of that kind each track is different and all are worthy of multiple listening. Every self-respecting jazz musician for a start is expected to be able to deliver a good blues chorus, just listen to Cassandra Wilson’s performance on track 19. Every track is most enjoyable and it is easy to understand when you listen to them, how jazz, rock and roll and many other genres have been affected by the blues. This album really demonstrates the diversity of the blues with performances from great artists, the earliest in 1936 and the latest from this year. I have not seen the film, but I would like to.
